Red X® Technician Certification

A Red X Technician is recognized for solving shop floor problems and preventing future problems through process characterization and active process control.

Prerequisites:

There are no prerequisites for Red X Technician training.

Course Requirements:

Red X Strategies for Quality Control (3 days)

Skill Requirements:

Red X Technician candidates must complete one project to the FACTUAL™ standards. This will include confirming the identity of the Red X with a B vs W™ test and demonstrating effective control with either a Green Y® run chart or a P-chart. The candidate must also submit a comprehensive set of tools for a Feature Strategy (Process Flow Diagram, Strategy Diagram™, Isoplot®, Multi-Vari and Red X Confirmation Test) and a Defect Strategy (Process Flow Diagram, Strategy Diagram and Concentration Diagram).

Submission Requirements:

Shainin certification emphasizes the demonstration of developed skills rather than the accumulation of knowledge.

Red X Technician candidates must complete one project to the FACTUAL standards and submit toolbox work demonstrating their proficiency with the tools listed above. Two people may work together on this toolbox submission, and both may submit their work for credit towards certification.

Time Limit

A candidate has 12 months from the time they attend the Red X Strategies for Quality Control class until they submit the toolbox work.

Advanced Training:

Technician certification is not a prerequisite for Journeyman certification. However, technicians meeting the defined standards will be given credit for having completed the first Journeyman project. Journeyman candidates are still required to attend the appropriate classes (Red X Problem Solving for Manufacturing, Advanced Problem Solving for Manufacturing and Red X Solutions), submit two successfully completed projects (leading the second project), meet the toolbox requirements, and obtain endorsement from a Shainin consultant.
