Shainin Certification:
Technical Problem Prevention Path

Need to prevent problems from occurring?
The solution is Green Y® certification.

Experience has shown us that most product problems are related not to the absence of desirable features or events, but to the presence of those that are undesirable.  How do you ensure the presence of the desirable product features and events and the absence of the undesirable ones?

There are surprisingly few answers to this very basic question.  That is why we created the Green Y Certification Program, which teaches the Risk ReduXion® technology we have developed over the last ten years.  The problem prevention techniques taught in this program will ensure a lower level of product risk and help you avoid the highest risk of all:  the risk of the unknown.  Included in the program are strategies, techniques, and tools that are available nowhere else in the world.

Green Y certification provides strategies and tools for problem prevention.  It addresses design and manufacturing problems early in product design, when problems can most easily be fixed.  The Green Y program is made up of three phases.  The analysis phase focuses on understanding how a product is designed to function, and how it may fail to function.  During the analysis phase, both the product and the process designed to produce it may still be on paper.  Once components or parts are available, the verification phase confirms the relationship between product specifications and manufacturing tolerances.  In the validation phase, the application of our accelerated test methods assure product reliability.

Most of our discussion of Risk ReduXion pertains to the development of new products.  However, the same strategies and tools can be used to “risk-reduce” existing products and processes, protecting you and your customers from future spills.

Design, product and process engineers and quality professionals may attain Green Y certification according to how their jobs are structured.  Those whose responsibilities are limited to segments of product and process development may undertake certification as Green Y Apprentice, Journeyman, or Validation Engineers.  Those with broader responsibilities will want to pursue Green Y Master certification, for this level provides the core resources for a strong Green Y program.
