Red X® Master Certification

A Red X Master is an expert technical problem solver, qualified to develop new journeymen. A Red X Master has been recognized for demonstrating the ability to develop, execute and communicate strategy in a variety of technologies. A Red X Master has also demonstrated the ability to coach. To earn certification, the successful candidate has led three successful Red X projects beyond Journeyman certification, demonstrates proficiency with key tools in the Red X toolbox and coached at least two individuals to Red X Journeyman certification.

Prerequisite:

Master candidates must have completed the three post-Journeyman projects, and Master toolbox work prior to attending the Master class and starting to coach Apprentice and Journeyman candidates.

Who should attend?

Candidates for Master certification, who have completed their additional projects, demonstrated tool proficiency and received a recommendation from a Shainin consultant acknowledging their potential to coach others may attend.

Skill Requirements:

  • Lead three successful projects beyond Red X Journeyman certification.
    • Projects must demonstrate breadth of strategies including:
      • Feature or Property
      • Defect or Destructive Event
      • Malfunction Event
    • Projects must demonstrate convergence through a combination of strategies.
    • Projects must demonstrate the ability to excel under pressure (Rolling Top 5® or crises).
  • All tools listed in Journeyman toolbox not previously completed in Journeyman certification.
  • Develop two certified Red X Apprentices and two Journeymen (total of 4 projects coached).

Submission Requirements:

Shainin certification emphasizes the demonstration of developed skills rather than the accumulation of knowledge.

After attaining Journeyman certification, Red X Master candidates must lead an additional three Red X projects. The projects must be reviewed and submitted as they are completed. Submitting three projects at one time will not be accepted as it does not allow for appropriate technical development. The projects must be completed using the FACTUAL™ template in a concise technical report presenting the strategy, evidence, reasoning, and lessons learned that resulted in successful project completion in accordance with certification standards. In addition to the project submissions, a Master must submit a toolbox demonstrating proficiency with key tools. This work may be demonstrated as individual tools or as part of the project submission. Following the completion of the Shainin Master class, the Master candidate will coach at least two candidates to Apprentice and two to Journeyman certification (total of 4 projects coached).

Endorsement:

To attain Master certification, a candidate must be endorsed by a Shainin consultant through an interview. The consultant will assess the candidate proficiency in the following areas: strategy development, use of advanced tools, and the ability to coach and develop others.

Time Limit:

A candidate has 24 months from completion of the third Master project in which to attend the Master class and develop two Red X Journeymen.
