Problem Solving for Manufacturing introduces Shainin Red X® problem solving methodologies. Students will learn the Shainin FACTUAL™ process and how to apply it to problems in a manufacturing environment.

Students will learn:

  • How to assess the effectiveness of a measurement system based upon its intended use.
  • Strategies to quickly and efficiently converge from problems on the shop floor to a root cause and a solution to fix the problem.
  • Various tools including: Isoplot®, Component Search™, Paired Comparisons™, Group Comparisons, Concentration Diagrams, Multi Vari, process flow diagrams, Y → X™ scatter plots and Strategy Diagrams™ for events, features, properties and defects.
  • Case studies include manufacturing plant failures, and early field failures.

Objectives:

This course is designed to enable participants to quickly and efficiently:

  • Solve measurement system problems.
  • Help reduce scrap in manufacturing for dimensional problems.
  • Help reduce variation for key customer characteristics and improve process capability.
  • Reduce scrap for visual defect problems.
  • Solve early field failure problems.

Benefits:

Participants can use the skills and knowledge gained in this course to:

  • Use small teams to work on projects.
  • Learn to solve problems quickly and efficiently.
  • Find true root cause and fix the problem rather than applying band aids.

Prerequisite:

There is no prerequisite for this class.
