John Abrahamian
Vice President, Engineering Practice
John Abrahamian worked for several years as a design and development engineer of jet engines and space propulsion systems and he served as a manager responsible for implementing both lean manufacturing and value engineering. Since joining Shainin in 1998 he has been helping clients to maximize gains from Shainin strategies for problem solving and problem prevention on a wide range of product lines, including aerospace, automotive, medical devices, and office products. His teaching and coaching skills propel John to play a leading role in tailoring Shainin technology to the needs of client engineering organizations. Prior to joining Shainin, John worked for United Technologies, Pratt & Whitney. He holds a bachelor of science in mechanical engineering from the University of Connecticut and a master of business administration from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

Richard Hell
Managing Director, Shainin GmbH
Richard served as a Director for one of the world’s most distinguished information technology suppliers, with a focus on industrial solutions. He held positions including Director, CIO, and General Manager of Organization & Information for a major German auto manufacturer, where he was a member of their corporate strategy team, focusing on IT strategy, architecture, and standards in Bangkok, Thailand, Singapore, Stuttgart, Germany, and Detroit. Early in his career, he made significant contributions to a cutting-edge optics design and manufacturing firm in Germany, where he worked with teams building up production lines, implementing maintenance systems, and production engineering. Richard became the Managing Director for Shainin GmbH in August 2007. Based in Munich, Germany, he will be expanding Shainin’s problem-solving capabilities in Europe. His previous employers include IBM, DaimlerChrysler, and Rodenstock (established in 1877). He graduated as a Qualified Engineer from the University of Applied Sciences (FH) in Regensburg, Germany, with an emphasis on electrical engineering for automation, robotics, and information technology, and has advanced postgraduate technical and management training

Craig Hysong
Executive Vice President
Craig has held a wide range of senior positions within the automotive industry. His management experience includes manufacturing engineering, new product launch, and cost improvement. In 1998, he joined Shainin as a consultant and later became a consulting manager and principal for Shainin. As an Executive Vice President of the company, he continues to work with clients to improve the delivery of technology and the development of standardized work practices. Craig is currently responsible for consulting services and certification worldwide. Prior to joining Shainin, he worked at General Motors and ITT Automotive. He earned a bachelor of science in electrical engineering from the Pennsylvania State University and a master of science in manufacturing systems engineering from Lehigh, which he attended as a General Motors Fellow. He is a licensed professional engineer and an American Society for Quality certified Quality Engineer, Reliability Engineer, Quality Auditor, and Quality Manager.

Tim Nelson
Principal
Tim’s experience includes managerial positions in the automotive industry, but it is most strongly rooted in Shainin, where he has created problem solving strategies, techniques, and algorithms, including the Shainin-proprietary Rolling Top 5® Strategy, the Green Y® Strategy, and Shainin Risk ReduXion®. He joined Shainin in 1992 as a consultant, supporting clients by applying Shainin technology to resolve complex manufacturing problems. He held subsequent positions with Shainin as principal and executive director, and for two years, served as president, Tim enjoys guiding clients to, “think like a detective,” isolating and correcting the causes of variation and ultimately, to become better problem-solvers themselves. Before joining our company, Tim worked for Lucas Industries in Birmingham, England, a world-class manufacturer of electronic modules for automobiles. Tim has a degree in mechanical engineering from Clemson University and he holds several patents covering variable value timing and fuel injection.

Patrick Shainin
Principal
With a strong background in software development, Patrick’s contributions to the company go back to 1991, when he created computer simulations of several Shainin algorithms to measure their statistical power. In 1994, he led the development of the company’s Red X Tracker® software; a tool that automates and extends aspects of the company’s problem solving approach. From 2003 – 2007, Patrick directed the managers of the legal, financial, human resource, information technology, sales administration, software development, class development, and event coordination functions that support the company’s consultants and trainers in the field. He holds a bachelor of arts in music and a bachelor of science in electrical engineering from Stanford University.

Peter Shainin
CEO
Peter has spent over 40 years providing design, testing, and solutions support to engineering and manufacturing organizations across a range of industries, worldwide. In 1984, Peter co-founded Shainin Consultants with Dorian Shainin. Since then, he’s done problem-solving consulting for major manufacturers in the automotive, electronics, aerospace, chemical, and paper industries in the US, the UK, France, Spain, Portugal, Canada, and Germany. He served various leadership positions within Shainin, forging the development of new engineering techniques for new product development and quality improvement, and is currently our CEO. He began his career at Pratt & Whitney, where he was a member of the fuel systems development team for the F-100 engine. He designed marine deck machinery for Marine Construction and Design of Seattle and at Skagit Corporation, a manufacturer of marine, construction and logging machinery, where he was responsible for marine and government sales. Later on, he established and operated a successful architecture and construction business in Washington State. Peter has an engineering degree from Stevens Institute of Technology and is a licensed professional engineer. He has authored and co-authored over a dozen papers on topics such as quality, pre-control, statistical process control, and analysis of experiments, among others, in publications such as the ASQ Congress and QM Forum. He co-authored the chapter on statistical process control in Juran’s Quality Control Handbook, Fourth Edition.

Richard D. Shainin
Executive Vice President
Richard’s experience includes senior leadership positions in the telecommunications industry; guiding teams in engineering, operations, human resources, and sales and marketing. Since he joined Shainin in 1991, he has served as a consultant and principal and is currently responsible for sales, marketing, and public relations activities. He guides class development and delivery and the maintenance of technology standards, and he continues to work with client leadership to develop and implement Shainin programs. Prior to joining Shainin, Richard worked at AT&T for 19 years. He has a bachelor of engineering with a concentration in mechanical engineering from the Stevens Institute of Technology (Hoboken, NJ), and a master of business administration with a concentration in operations analysis from American University (Washington, D.C.). He is a graduate of the AT&T Management Development Program.

Pete Tunnicliffe
Vice President, North America
With over 20 years of diverse general management, manufacturing strategy, and operations management experience across a range of industries, Pete’s background is anchored firmly in manufacturing operations. His experience includes lean manufacturing, program/project management, domestic and international product planning, development and introduction, quality management, and strategic business development. Pete joined Shainin in 2001 and since then, he has been dedicated to working with our client’s executives to help them transfer Shainin technology throughout their corporations. Formerly, Pete was a principal at AT Kearney, a senior director of product planning and administration at Union Special Corporation, and was also a senior manager at Ernst & Young. He holds a bachelor of sciences in industrial engineering from Purdue University, a master of science in operations research from the University of New Haven, and a master of science in management from the Krannert School of Management at Purdue University.
