Dorian Shainin Medal"A professional approach to problem solving" Dorian Shainin is best known for the "Shainin Techniques" - practical tools he developed to help manufacturers solve problems, including problems that had been considered unsolvable. The American Society for Quality (ASQ) has created the Dorian Shainin Medal to be awarded for the development and application of creative or unique statistical approaches in the solving of problems relative to the quality of product or service. On May 16, 2005 at the ASQ World Conference on Quality and Improvement, Margaret Shainin accepted the first casting of the new medal in honor of Dorian Shainin. Richard Shainin provided insight to Dorian's philosophy and introduced the new medal. Statistician Carl Bennett, was the first to be awarded this medal for his work developing The Bennett Method™. |
